If you’re gearing up to move into a new apartment home, congratulations! Moving is such an exciting time, and it is easy to get wrapped up in the anticipation of it. However, there are a few key boxes you need to check to ensure a smooth transition. Here are a few to get you started.
Coordinate your move-out. As soon as you know you will be moving out of an apartment or another rental property, be sure to look at your lease and follow their move-out protocols, whether that be giving notice, finding a new tenant, or any other processes you need to follow. This will give you peace of mind when beginning your moving journey.
Start the address change process. While you may already have your new address updated on your Amazon account, don’t forget the other places that may not be as exciting. These include accounts like your medical insurance, your employer records, and any other vital pieces of your life that need your new address, especially if you won’t have access to your old one once you move.
Confirm important dates. Whether you move in or out of an apartment home, walk-throughs are an important part of the process. To make sure that schedules align for you and your property manager, try to set these up in advance so it’s one less thing on your to-do list.
Set up the basics. When you finally get the keys to your new home, you won’t want to worry about setting up the utilities, purchasing renters insurance, and transferring over any existing subscriptions like cable and internet, so be sure to set some time beforehand to get all of these items ready for your move-in date. Then once you get there, all you’ll have to worry about is decorating your new place!
Organize your belongings. Moving is a great time to determine what you need, and what you can part with. If you already own belongings that can be used in your new apartment home, account for what can come with you, what you need to purchase new, and what you could potentially sell or donate. That way, you’ll have everything you need come move-in time!
Schedule your moving support. If you need support in moving make sure you coordinate this in advance! It’s best to set aside some time to plan for this, especially if you want to hire professional movers since they do tend to book out. Plus, it’s common courtesy to give your friends and family ample time to coordinate their own schedules to help.
