Hosting Thanksgiving as a Renter

  |     |   Renters Tips

Hosting Thanksgiving can be a daunting responsibility with a lot of work and pressure to get it just right, but it shouldn’t discourage you from taking on the challenge! Hosting a holiday can be a really rewarding and fun experience when you plan ahead and have a solid game plan. In today’s blog, we’re sharing some of our best tips for a successful Thanksgiving holiday as a renter.

Think smart with seating.

Depending on how big your guest list is, you may need to utilize some unconventional seating to accommodate your space. Things like benches or ottomans that may have otherwise been used for storage or decoration can serve a dual purpose as chairs for your guests. Or you could ask your guests to bring their own seat, whether that’s a camping chair or a simple stool. Remember, it’s more about people than aesthetics.

Reorganize your furniture.

While your setup is great for your everyday life, when hosting a larger number of people you may need to move furniture around to accommodate your guests. Your favorite coffee table or reclining chair might have to make a temporary home in the bedroom or in the corner to make sure there’s ample space for your guests to mingle.

Keep the menu simple.

By sticking to a few of the classics, you, your kitchen, and your serving table can avoid getting overwhelmed. You can even invite your guests to bring their favorite dessert or side dish as part of the festivities. This will help you spend less time in the kitchen and more time entertaining your guests, while ensuring everyone is well fed.

Make clean-up easy.

You won’t want to spend hours washing your fancy china after a successful party… or risk it getting damaged by guests! Using disposable, recyclable items like plates, napkins and cutlery will alleviate any concern and make clean-up a breeze.

Keep your lease agreement in mind.

The holidays are a fun and exciting time! But it’s important to check your lease agreement before hosting. If your community has quiet hours, assigned parking, or other guidelines that impact your guests, make sure they are well informed to avoid any issues on the night.

Happy hosting!
