Housewarming Party Tips for Renters

  |     |   Renters Tips

One of the best parts of moving into a new apartment home is inviting all of your friends and family over for a housewarming party! But now that you’re in a new, shared community space, there are a few extra things to consider aside from hors d'oeuvres and party games. Here’s what to consider when it comes to throwing the best housewarming party.

Be courteous to your new neighbors. To ensure you start off on the right foot, you could even give your neighbors a heads-up that you’ll be having a few guests over. Let them know the date and time so they won’t be alarmed if there’s some extra noise or commotion. And if you feel like it could be a good connection, you can always invite them to join you.

Be mindful of music and noise. Not only is a good playlist vital to a successful party, but when you live in an apartment community, so is the content of the music and the noise. Make sure the profanities are limited and the message of your music is appropriate for any and all audiences that may hear it passing by. On the same note, keep an eye, or ear, on the volume. Assuming your neighbors are fine with mild noise, don’t test the limits by blasting your speaker as loud as it can go.

Strongly consider the guest list. Depending on the size of your apartment, you may not be able to invite everyone you know. If your apartment home can only accommodate a certain number of people, you’ll have to be selective with your guest list. Or, you can host a couple of housewarming parties and invite certain groups of people on different days. You just want to be mindful of giving your guests enough space to mingle and enjoy themselves.

Add alternative seating. When it’s just you at home, you most likely have ample seating. But when you begin to invite guests over, you’ll want to make sure they have enough places to sit and relax. Consider bringing in alternative seating, like stools, pillows, ottomans, and other functional seating for your guests.

Stock up on supplies. Nothing is more unfortunate at a housewarming party than when the host runs out of toilet paper, food, or anything for that matter. Be sure to have enough supplies for when you have more than your usual number of people. You may not need it all, but you’ll be happy to have it in case you do!

Set a firm end time. Especially if your apartment community has firm quiet hours, you’ll want to set a time for your party to end. Plus, you’ll want to be courteous towards your neighbors who may like to wind down early. This will also help you to make sure all of your guests leave in a timely manner and give you time to clear your home after they go.

With these tips in mind, you’ll be able to host a great housewarming party and keep the other members of your community comfortable. Happy housewarming!
