How To Save Money As A Renter By Leveling Up Your Deep Clean

  |     |   Renters Tips

So you live in an apartment home and consider yourself to be quite tidy. You don’t leave dishes out for hours, you vacuum once a week and, overall, you feel like you’re doing a good job. You may even enjoy doing it!

However, statistics show that only 26% of Americans deep-clean frequently. Why is this important? Unclean items can do a lot of damage by collecting dust and mold, and when you move out, you don’t want that added expense taken from your security deposit. Here are a few things we recommend paying attention to on your next cleaning spree.

Ceiling Fans and Light Fixtures

These are an important part of a deep clean as they don’t usually get a lot of attention. if you let it go too long, you’ll start to see a coating of dirt and dust build up on the blade. A common method is to use a pillowcase to wipe the blades so that the dust is contained within the material rather than free-falling into your apartment. These only need cleaning a couple of times a year, ideally in the winter and summer months. Just make sure the fan is turned off before you do it.

Behind the Toilet

Bacteria can grow around the toilet as well as within it. As part of a deep cleaning checklist, we would add the area behind your toilet. Although it’s hard to reach and you barely see it, there is often mold, dust, dirt and bacteria that builds up if you don’t clean it every few months. Using an extendable cleaning brush works perfectly.

Cabinets and Drawers

This one takes a little work but is definitely worth it, especially in the kitchen where pieces of food can easily accumulate. At least monthly, it’s recommended that you empty your drawers and cabinets one by one, vacuum them out and wipe them down with a rag. You’ll also want to hit those cabinet faces as well.

Baseboards

Another area we recommend giving a quick clean to is your baseboards. This is an area easily scuffed by shoes and, as they run along the bottom of each wall, they can pick up a lot of dust. The fix is easy. All you have to do is vacuum them with the brush attachment and wipe them down with a damp cloth.

Today more than ever, it’s important that we keep our family safe and healthy by removing allergens and dirt that can build up in our home… And if you live in an apartment home, it may end up saving you money as well.
